Renewed Hope Ambassadors Forum Warns Former Minister Gwarzo to Stop Criticizing Tinubu for Removing Him**
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors Forum (RHAF) has warned former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi T. Gwarzo, to stop criticizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for removing him from office.
Gwarzo, along with four other individuals, was dismissed last month due to his failure to effectively carry out the responsibilities assigned to the ministries he headed.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Saturday, Gwarzo claimed that his removal was politically motivated. He expressed dissatisfaction over President Tinubu's appointment of Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Atta as his successor, stating that the president should have appointed Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the APC gubernatorial candidate in Kano State in 2023, instead of Atta.
Gwarzo also elaborated on a private conversation he had with the president regarding his removal.
In response, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Forum condemned Gwarzo's remarks, describing them as disrespectful to President Tinubu and the presidency. They stated that his comments revealed that he was unfit for the position of minister in the first place.
"We view the interview that was conducted by the BBC with the former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi T. Gwarzo, as an insult to President Tinubu, who has the constitutional authority to appoint and dismiss ministers," said Comrade Danjuma Gwale, a spokesperson for the group.
The group argued that it was inappropriate for someone who had held a ministerial position to disclose private conversations with the president, adding that such actions were not only shameful but also demonstrated a lack of qualification for the office. They further emphasized that Gwarzo's behavior reflected a disrespectful attitude toward the president and the presidency.
The forum also criticized Gwarzo for attempting to tarnish the president's reputation and warned him to retract his statements or face appropriate actions.
"Historically, no minister in Nigeria who has been removed has done what Gwarzo did. He should have publicly thanked the president for giving him the opportunity to serve and moved on with his life, as other ministers removed by President Tinubu have done. Instead, Gwarzo came out making unfounded accusations as if the president had committed an offense by doing what is allowed under Nigeria's Constitution," the statement said.
The group pointed out that Gwarzo should have raised his concerns about Gawuna's appointment when he was initially appointed as minister in 2023, rather than making such remarks after his dismissal.
Comrade Danjuma Usman Gwale, the forum's coordinator in Kano State, also expressed his disappointment with Gwarzo's actions, emphasizing that his comments violated Section 171 of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, which grants the president the authority to appoint or remove any minister.
