South Korean Parliament Impeaches Acting President Han Duck Soo
On Friday, members of the South Korean National Assembly voted to impeach the acting president, Han Duck Soo, less than two weeks after the removal of President Yoon Suk Yeol from office.
A total of 192 members of the opposition, who hold the majority in the National Assembly, voted to impeach Han, surpassing the minimum majority required for the motion.
This marks the first time in the history of the East Asian country that an acting president has been impeached.
Finance Minister Choi Sang Mok will replace Han as acting president. In a statement, he pledged that the government would do everything possible to "resolve the crisis" and ensure that national security matters would not be neglected.
